The camera feeder in your yard was a one-time purchase. The app attached to it usually isn’t. We went brand by brand through official pricing pages, help centers, and app listings to build a complete record of what every major smart bird feeder actually charges as of July 31, 2026 — and what each brand still gives you for free.

Short version: the gap between brands is enormous. Over three years, the same “watch birds, know their names” experience runs anywhere from $0 to about $450 in subscription fees alone.

VicoHome’s official manual likewise lists two different 12-month prices for Plus ($48.49 vs $49.99) and Pro ($86.99 vs $94.99); we show the lower.

Bird Buddy sells two memberships, purchased in-app: Individual Premium at $69.99/year and Family Premium at $98.99/year, each with a 1-week free trial. The free tier is genuinely usable — automatic photos and videos, live stream, and manual species ID on any postcard. Worth knowing: the annual Individual price was $59.99 and Family was $89.99 as recently as July 2025 (we checked the archived pricing page), so both went up about $10 within the past year.

Birdfy (Netvue) overhauled everything in 2026. The old per-device AI plan — $4.99 per 30 days, $49 per year, or a $69.99 lifetime unlock — is closed to new standalone purchases, replaced by the account-based membership above. Existing lifetime-AI owners keep their benefits, and select hardware still ships with lifetime AI bundled — which is why our Birdfy vs. Bird Buddy comparison keeps pointing at the AI Lifetime SKUs. Birdfy’s free tier is the strongest of the big three: 30-day rolling cloud storage, 5GB permanent storage, and 10 free identifications per day. The 15-day trial requires no credit card.

FeatherSnap keeps it simple and per-camera: $6.99/month or $59.99/year, per camera. Without it, snaps expire after 72 hours and there’s no species ID. If you cancel, a $2.99/month storage-only plan preserves your saved captures. Two feeders means two subscriptions — the only per-device billing among the majors.

The VicoHome crowd (Harymor, Osoeri, and many other Amazon brands) all use the same VicoHome app, and one Awareness subscription covers every camera on your account: Basic at $2.99/month or $31.99/year is the cheapest verified species-ID-included plan on the market. The catch: the free tier includes no bird recognition at all.

The short version: Bilantan’s bird ID is lifetime-free with SD-card storage; SEHMUA advertises no subscription at all; Dokoo, despite similar marketing, requires a subscription for AI ID and doesn’t publish the price anywhere; and Wasserstein’s product is a case for a camera you already own — any cloud fees are whatever Ring, Blink, or Wyze charge.

What we’d actually do

If species ID is the whole point, the cheapest verified path is a VicoHome-app feeder on Basic: under $100 over three years, every camera covered. If you want the best free tier and might never pay, Birdfy’s 30-day storage plus 10 daily IDs is the one we’d pick. If you refuse subscriptions on principle, Bilantan with an SD card is the honest zero-dollar option. And budget for increases: Bird Buddy raised annual prices roughly 10-17% in the past year, and Birdfy’s move from a $49/year AI plan to a $70-80/year membership was a real price hike for single-feeder owners, even with more bundled in.

Where a price only exists inside an app-store checkout, we say so and mark it unverified rather than repeat numbers from content farms (several widely-cited sites publish four different, mutually contradictory Bird Buddy prices).
